Unscentable Prologue

Piper sobbed softly in the middle of the woods, her pain and heartache too much to bear. She had decided to leave her home pack in Montana, unable to take the betrayal of her Alpha, Alpha Bradley, anymore. Every time he was with another, she felt pain, not because he didn’t recognize her as his Mate, but because he had no idea who she was to him. She had scented him out three years ago, on the first full moon after her 18th birthday, and had felt instant pain. Piper was Piper, but her scent was undetectable, making her invisible to the entire pack.

Harper, Piper’s wolf, was a ball of sadness and pain, and they knew they had to leave. Bradley was going to be away for two days, and Piper planned to say goodbye and leave without him knowing. She didn’t know if she could reject her Mate without him being there to hear it, but she was willing to try. Piper figured that if Bradley didn’t know who she was for the past three years, then why would he need to be there to hear her rejection. She and Harper booked a flight to a city several states away, where they could start a new life as humans. They were tired of being wolves; Harper didn’t seem to care about shifting anymore, and Piper was tired of being invisible. They packed their belongings and said goodbye to the only life they had ever known.

Unscentable Chapter 1

Piper stood in her bridal shop window, pinning the dress to the mannequin, admiring her latest creation. Her designs were well-liked in the human world, and her store, Goddess Gowns, was thriving. However, as she caught the scent of wolves, her mood darkened. The air was filled with the Pack scent, and she knew that the woman downstairs was here to purchase a gown for her Luna Ceremony to none other than Bradley Drake himself, Piper’s Mate who had rejected her eight years ago. She felt a pang of pain, knowing that he had found his first Mate.

As she stepped away from the window, Piper refused to look at the pair, ordering her store manager Izzy to attend to them. She headed upstairs to her office, trying to resist the temptation to eavesdrop on the conversation. But her peace was short-lived, as Cooper, the Beta of the Black Haven Pack, knocked on her door, charming and smiley, trying to use his good looks to get what he wanted. Piper was not impressed, dismissing him and his friend, who wanted a custom gown designed by her. As Cooper tried to woo her, she remained unmoved, annoyed by his efforts to charm her, and only wanted him and his friend to leave her store for good.

Piper had just finished packing her suitcases for a weekend getaway to Whistler with her boyfriend Brandon when her ex-Mate, Bradley Drake, burst into her studio, furious about her refusal to make a wedding dress for his new mate, Hadley. Piper was taken aback by his presence, still reeling from their past rejection. She felt a surge of pain at the sight of him with another woman, and her heart rate doubled as she tried to process the situation. Harper, her inner wolf, was also affected, feeling a strong sense of rejection and pain.

Piper tried to compose herself but couldn’t help the emotional overload. She shook her head, refusing to make the dress, and saw Bradley’s eyes go wide as he realized she wasn’t human. Piper and Harper slipped away, leaving Brad and Hadley to depart, and Piper couldn’t help but cry as she replayed the painful scene in her mind. Bradley, an alpha wolf, was upset when his beta Cooper told him that Hadley, a young woman in their pack, was distraught after a trip to a bridal shop run by a designer named Piper Harper. Harper had refused to make the specific wedding dress that Hadley had been dreaming of for years, and had even torn up a picture of the dress that Hadley had been saving for so long. Bradley was concerned that someone who could be so cruel to a sweet and gentle person like Hadley did not deserve to be successful. He decided to visit the boutique himself and get to the bottom of the situation.

Upon further investigation, Bradley discovered that Piper Harper Designs was a well-known and respected company, with three stores and a reputation for creating beautiful wedding gowns. However, Harper’s employee, Renee, revealed that Harper was a troubled individual who had been difficult to work with, and that the dress Hadley wanted was no longer in production. Despite feeling frustrated and annoyed, Bradley decided to book a flight to Portland to meet with Piper Harper and try to resolve the situation.

Unscentable Chapter 4

Piper woke up in tears, having had a dream about Bradley Drake, her Mate, for the first time in five years. The dream was filled with pain and anguish as she relived the memory of him marking and claiming another. She had thought she had moved on, but the encounter with him yesterday had brought up all the old feelings. Piper struggled to come to terms with the fact that she would never have Bradley as her Mate, and that they had lost him long ago.

As she stepped out onto her balcony, Piper noticed movement in the distance and turned to Harper, a silent response indicating it was wolves. She then asked Harper if she wanted to go for a run, but received a negative response. Harper, Piper’s wolf, had not shifted in nearly a decade and seemed to have lost all desire to do so. Piper recalled Harper’s first shift and the pain and liberation it brought, but now Harper seemed to be stuck in a state of sadness and pain. Piper decided to focus on the day’s plans, ordering breakfast and preparing for a day of skiing with Brandon, who was finally able to shift into his wolf form.

Unscentable Chapter 5

Piper POVPipier turned at the sound of Brandon coming from his room, still in his pyjamas, she’d heard his alarm go off at 8. The boy was smiling already, excited about the day on the slopes, such a happy kid. She was really glad of that. Smiled right at him and told him breakfast would be here soon. He grinned right at her “Then to the slopes.” “Yes, once the runs and lifts are open.” She smiled right back “and the half pipe.” “Heck yeah, I want you to take lots of photos too. My friends don’t believe I can half pipe already.” “Gotcha, lots of photos it is.” She nodded.

They hit the slopes as soon as the lifts were operating and went from one ski run to another all morning, actually had a really good time with him out there, tormenting him openly, catching up with him and making him think she was going to beat him right near the end of each run, saw that determination in him to win. He did love a challenge. They ate lunch on the mountain at Rendezvous Lodge before heading down again to let Brandon hit the half pipe. They headed out into the town to do some shopping in the afternoon, all boarded out for the day, and ran into a couple of wolves. Piper sidestepped most of them, knowing that they wouldn’t scent her or know she was there, something she was completely used to.

Unscentable Chapter 6

Bradley stood in Piper Harper’s store, “Goddess Gowns”, wondering about her decision to name it after the moon goddess. He was drawn to the store because he suspected Piper, a she-wolf, was hiding her true nature. Bradley had a strong connection to Piper, which he believed to be Mate-like, but Piper seemed to be avoiding him. He tracked down Piper’s assistant, Izzy, who appeared annoyed by his presence. Despite Izzy’s cold demeanor, Bradley pressed on, asking about Piper’s whereabouts. Izzy claimed Piper was away for the long weekend, but Bradley didn’t believe her.

Bradley searched Piper’s office and studio, finding them both unlocked, which seemed strange. He discovered Piper’s office was tidy and decorated with framed prints of her designs, while the studio was filled with materials and tools. Bradley didn’t find any signs of Piper’s presence, leading him to believe that Izzy was telling the truth. He considered leaving a note for Piper when she returned, but decided against it due to her assistant’s reaction to him and his own suspicion that she would not use the contact information. Bradley left the store, still mystified by Piper’s behavior and his own connection to her.

Piper and Brandon were having breakfast at the hotel when a young woman approached Piper. The woman was a she-wolf and Piper quickly recognized her as the same one who had approached her at the elevator the other day. Piper told the woman that she was on holiday with her son and couldn’t talk to her at the moment. The woman, however, continued to press her, asking Piper to apologize to her daughter for something Piper had said. Piper refused, telling the woman that her daughter was rude and had interrupted their family holiday. The woman became agitated and the situation escalated, with Piper eventually telling her to leave her and Brandon alone.

The incident was interrupted when Piper’s son Brandon intervened, grabbing his snowboard and attempting to attack the Alpha who was accompanying the woman. The Alpha, however, was able to deflect the attack and Piper quickly stepped in to calm her son down. Her attempt was unsuccessful, and Brandon’s Alpha Wolf emerged, causing Piper to worry about the consequences of the situation. She managed to calm him down eventually, but not before the Alpha snorted in amusement at the whole ordeal. The situation was tense, and Piper knew that the Alpha was not going to take kindly to her son’s behavior.

Bradley sat at his desk, researching wolves with white eyes. He had asked Hadley, who was still upset, to unpack while he tried again with Piper Harper to resolve the issue. Hadley had asked why a she-wolf would run away from her Mate, but Bradley couldn’t answer. He had already checked the pack’s database and couldn’t find any record of a Piper Harper. He sent Eddie to bring Renee to his office, as she had stocked Piper Harper gowns for three and a half years and might know more about her.

Renee revealed that Piper Harper’s real last name was Whitlock, and she was a pack member who left without warning. Bradley couldn’t find any record of her, but Renee explained that she had been born in the pack, sold out here before leaving, and changed her last name when she became big. Bradley finally found information on her in the pack’s database, revealing that she was the child of Talon and Jewel Whitlock, both deceased warriors from another pack. Bradley’s eyes widened as he realized the complexity of the situation, and the pain Piper must have felt watching him be with other she-wolves while knowing he was her Mate.

Piper sat with Brandon in their hotel suite, checking in on his well-being after the traumatic experience at the half pipe. Brandon confirmed that Aspen, his inner wolf, had apologized, and Piper was relieved. However, Brandon revealed that Aspen had been talking to him for six months, and he had started to realize that he might have a special connection with Piper due to their shared experiences as wolves.

As they prepared to leave for a meeting with Alpha Timothy, Piper explained to Brandon the complexities of being a wolf, including the importance of controlling his powers and the potential risks of Aspen’s early emergence. Back at the meeting, Piper struggled to focus on designing a dress for Alpha Timothy’s daughter, Celeste, due to her unease around the Alpha’s presence and her worry about harming Brandon. She tried to keep her distance, but Alpha Timothy’s words and actions made her feel uneasy, and she was relieved when he asked about her wolf’s presence.

Bradley’s father, Benjamin, called him to inform him that Hadley, his younger sister, was missing. Her car was not at their Portland hotel suite, and no one had seen her in a day. Bradley’s concern turned to worry as his father explained that Hadley’s friends had not seen her and her father’s unit was also unable to locate her. Bradley’s father mentioned that Hadley had been upset about Piper, Bradley’s mate, who had left the pack, and believed that Hadley might have gone to Portland to try to convince Piper to return.

Bradley discussed the situation with his unit, and they decided to split up to search for Hadley. Bradley called his sister’s phone, but it went to voicemail. He asked his father if he had ordered the night gate guard not to tell anyone if he saw Hadley or her car, and his father confirmed that he had made the order. Bradley realized that Hadley would likely be on her way to Portland by now, and he instructed his team to keep an eye out for her and to track her pack credit card. Bradley also left a voicemail for Hadley, warning her to call him back and threatening to personally search for her if she didn’t.

Piper is working from home, focusing on her design studio, while her husband Brandon is back to his normal self, having fun with friends. She’s managed to convince Izzy to handle some of her in-store appointments, but knows she can’t avoid going into the store forever. She’s started to feel like her comfortable, well-settled life is being disrupted, and is worried about the unexpected changes.

Bradley stood in his empty hotel suite, fuming with anger because Hadley had disobeyed his orders and left the room without permission. He wondered what his father would do if he knew, and how long Hadley had been gone. He wasn’t happy that he had to track her down, and he was even less pleased when he found out that she had gone to a cafe with their unit’s cover blown.

Bradley arrived at the cafe and found Hadley’s picture on the doorman’s phone, and learned that she had taken a cab almost an hour and a half ago. He decided to put her in the cells and follow through on his threat to discipline her. Meanwhile, he found out that Piper was in town and was being very careful to keep her presence a secret. Bradley eventually tracked her to Goddess Gown’s, where he met Izzy, the store’s owner. Despite his annoyance, he found himself attracted to her confidence and determination. However, Izzy refused to cooperate with him, and Bradley left the store, vowing to send Eddie to charm her instead.

Unscentable Chapter 13

Piper woke up early to hit the treadmill, accompanied by Brandon, who joined her 15 minutes later. She smiled down at him, noticing the concern in his eyes due to the bruising on her ribs, but she reassured him it was just a minor altercation. Brandon mentioned that Aspen, their wolf, was still sleeping, possibly due to being too young or overwhelmed by their experiences in Whistler. Piper and Harper, their healer, were amused by Brandon’s comment, and Harper confirmed that Aspen was indeed alright.

After finishing her morning run, Piper met with Harper, who was working on her injured ribs. Piper then dropped off Brandon at school and headed to her home studio to work on various projects. She received a call from Izzy, who revealed that Mr. Yummy, a suave businessman, had tried to charm her into revealing Piper’s address. Piper was shocked and concerned, realizing that the pack’s Gamma seemed to be playing dirty. Izzy revealed that she had resisted Mr. Yummy’s charms, but Piper was worried about the situation. Later, Piper met with Miss Harvey, who presented her with a detailed sketch of a dress that Piper recognized as a Victoria Lambardi Design. Victoria confirmed that the design was hers, and Piper exposed Miss Harvey’s theft. Victoria demanded that Piper detain Miss Harvey, who fled the office.

Bradley was confused and frustrated by Eddie’s failure to extract information from Izzy, Piper’s Goddess Gown Store employee. Eddie, known for his natural charm and ability to use his Gamma Charm, was unable to get anything out of Izzy. Not even his full Gamma Charm worked on her, a phenomenon he had never experienced before. Despite his efforts, Izzy remained unresponsive and even hostile towards him. She refused to provide information about Piper’s whereabouts and eventually told Eddie to leave the store and not come back.

Bradley, who had been observing the situation, felt embarrassed on Eddie’s behalf. He couldn’t help but wonder if there was more to Izzy than met the eye, as she seemed completely immune to Eddie’s charms. Bradley, himself an Alpha blooded male, had been searching for his unknown Mate for years and had given up on finding another she-wolf. His interactions with Izzy had sparked a renewed sense of hope, and he couldn’t help but feel drawn to her.
